Qualifications through volunteering
TCV Cymru can now offer better than ever opportunities to gain qualifications in conservation activities. Open College certificates enable volunteers and project workers the chance to gain recognition based on their practical experience and on-the-job learning. Over the last three years, over 100 people have achieved certificates. Now, working in partnership with the Open College Network, TCV has developed a new range of awards covering many of our most popular conservation activities.
Who are the qualifications for?
Clearly, qualifications are useful for anyone is planning on a career in conservation. The craft skills are also relevant to the landscaping industry, horticulture, forestry and arboriculture and even some construction jobs. OCN awards are now recognised by many employers and by all colleges.
These are quite basic level practical awards, and are useful for demonstrating practical skills to underpin an academic qualification - maybe as part of a “year out”.
Or you may simply be keen to enhance your conservation skills and to receive some recognition of your skills - just for the fun and satisfaction of it.
What activities are covered by the new range of qualifications?
