The Conservation Volunteers connects people and green spaces to deliver lasting outcomes for both.
Based at the Wealden District Council office in Hailsham and working along the Cuckoo Trail but attached to the TCV Office in Hastings. This exciting role supports TCV in enabling people and communities to improve their health, prospects and outdoor places. We have an outstanding track record of delivering conservation, community and health projects across Sussex and we want to build on this whilst continuing to meet the needs of our diverse communities, existing and potential partners and becoming a beacon of best practice for us nationally.
This role, working 21 hours per week, is focused on delivering an outstanding volunteering experience for our participants & volunteers in Wealden District.
You will be a strong team player with a can-do approach, bringing creativity and innovation to the team.
The post holder will support the East Sussex Team Leader in delivering the TCV Strategic Plan including business development and fundraising.
The post holder's role will include:
- Set up and run two Green Gym sessions per week working along the Cuckoo Trail, ensuring participants receive an excellent volunteering experience.
Set up and lead a weekly Health Walk along the Cuckoo Trail with a view to creating a sustainable community led walking project.
- Marketing to enable the project's success and significantly raise our profile in the vicinity.
- Recruiting and developing Volunteer Officers to support the project.
- Supporting the East Sussex Team Leader in delivering TCV's Strategic Plan including business development and fundraising.
Experience required:
- Co-ordinating volunteers.
- Planning and leading practical conservation projects.
- Working with partner organisations to deliver community projects.
- Working with & engaging the local community.
- Knowledge of practical conservation skills and countryside management. It would be a bonus to have an understanding of health & wellbeing.
- The ability to communicate effectively with people with varying abilities and levels of influence.
The Conservation Volunteers supports a flexible approach to determining the actual days and hours worked by the post holder, although they will be expected to remain flexible with their workdays, as delivery times may vary from week to week and may include occasional weekend and evening work.
The successful candidate will have previous experience of working with volunteers and community groups. Knowledge of practical conservation skills, countryside management issues and community engagement. Our projects work with volunteers and people with a wide variety of ages, abilities, and backgrounds. The successful candidate is likely to have experience of working with many sectors of the community delivering diverse activities.
The post holder will work in partnership with Wealden District Council staff and as part of The Conservation Volunteers team which runs the TCV Hastings office and delivers outreach work across Sussex. We are a small team of staff & volunteers, supporting each other on all areas of work.
A full driving licence (for a manual transmission vehicle) is essential, (which has been held for a minimum of one year), as the post holder will have access to a TCV van.
A full, clean or near clean UK driving licence is required for this post, which has been held for a minimum of one year.
