Are you passionate about inspiring young people through nature and outdoor learning? We're looking for an enthusiastic and engaging educator to join our team at Skelton Grange Environment Centre in Leeds. This part-time role (3 days per week) offers a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference by helping children connect with the natural world.
You'll play a key role in supporting The Conservation Volunteers (TCV) in delivering environmental education and play-based activities, primarily aimed at children aged 4-12. From school visits and nature-based play days to engaging group activities, your work will help young people discover and connect with their environment in meaningful and lasting ways. With over 7,500 visitors welcomed each year, Skelton Grange is a vibrant community hub for outdoor learning. You'll be part of a committed team of staff and volunteers delivering high-quality sessions that bring green spaces to life, supporting TCV's mission to connect people and nature across West Yorkshire.
Skills and Experience
Your responsibilities will include delivering two to three sessions each week, ranging from curriculum-linked school visits to creative play in natural environments. You'll be working closely with children across Early Years, Key Stage 1, and Key Stage 2, helping them explore, learn, and thrive outdoors. You will also help to update and develop new activities, bringing fresh ideas to keep our sessions fun, educational, and safe. In addition, you'll contribute to risk assessments, the monitoring and evaluation of our projects, and the updating of our educational resources.
We're looking for someone with genuine enthusiasm for working with young people in outdoor settings. You should be confident leading groups, able to adapt to different age ranges and learning styles, and capable of sparking curiosity and excitement about the natural world. Experience of working with schools, community groups or other third-sector organisations would be an advantage, as would experience of supporting and working alongside volunteers.
Support will be provided by our friendly and welcoming team. You'll report to and work closely with the Education Team Leader, and collaborate with sessional staff, trainees, and volunteer officers to plan and deliver engaging sessions. There may also be opportunities to support the wider Skelton Grange programme, including public events. Occasionally, this may involve weekend work, which would always be arranged in advance.
