Location: Leeds (Skelton Grange and Hollybush)

Salary: £23,888.55

Hours: 35 per week (full time)

Contract Type: Permanent

Apply by 24th July 2025

About the role

We are looking for someone with practical and people skills for a full time role to support TCV's site management and conservation work in Leeds, working on conservation and volunteering projects at both of our busy community hubs.
The role will be largely at Skelton Grange Environment Centre in South East Leeds but also include sessions at Hollybush Conservation Centre.

Skelton Grange welcomes over 8000 people a year - with this role focussed on the management and maintenance of the 10 acre site and eco building at this busy environmental education centre where we work extensively with children and young people.
We are looking for someone to deliver 2-3 sessions working with volunteers or trainees each week - working to maintain and develop the site and wildlife area and also to support people to develop their skills and experience. You will need to show organisational skills to plan and record maintenance tasks, as well as to plan how best to involve volunteers and trainees in this work. You will support a range of different volunteers and trainees, including people in long term training roles, regular volunteers, vulnerable adults and corporate volunteers. Some independent work will also be required.

The role will also involve bringing skills in conservation projects to Hollybush Conservation Centre - working with regular wellbeing based volunteering groups, and supporting volunteers to improve the site as a resource for both visitors and wildlife.

We are looking for someone with experience of practical conservation or other practical work and lots of enthusiasm for learning and sharing skills! The role will involve recruiting, inducting and training volunteers to support a range of practical projects, including habitat management, simple construction work, path and access work and and food growing. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate competence in basic construction and carpentry work. You would also be involved in risk assessing, monitoring and evaluating projects, and updating and our site management plan and site and building maintenance records.

You will also need to work closely with other teams at both sites to ensure that the site is developed in a way which is beneficial to our key visitors, as well as to wildlife. You will be supported by our friendly and welcoming team, reporting to the Skelton Grange Community Hub Manager . You will also work with Sessional Staff, Trainees, and Volunteer Officers to plan and deliver sessions.

You would also support the wider TCV team to deliver its diverse range of other activities, which includes training courses and public events. This may involve occasional weekend work, which would be planned in advance with the wider staff team.
