Senior Project Officer

INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY

Location: Croydon, London

Salary: £25,477 per annum plus London Weighting £3,882

Hours: 35 per week (full time)

Contract Type: Permanent

Apply by 6th July 2026

About the role

You will be leading TCV's ACE (Action for Croydon's Environment) local volunteer team as they maintain and enhance Croydon's green and blue spaces and occasionally range further afield into adjoining parts of Surrey. You will be in the field with the volunteers 2-3 days/week, with the balance of your working week set aside for project admin. You will work closely with your designated contact at London Borough of Croydon's Parks Team to develop and monitor an annual works programme and will be expected to report on outputs several times per year, both verbally and in writing. Additionally, you may work with local Friends groups as part of this maintenance schedule. You will be expected to plan and lead a small number of local corporate volunteering days in support of your core Croydon work and occasionally support those at neighbouring TCV projects. You will also actively seek out new opportunities to diversify TCV's work in south London/Surrey. You will be supported remotely by the south London Operations Leader and a full range of core central services (IT, Finance etc). You will share our Pond Cottage base with a corporate volunteering colleague, where you will have office space, a tool store and project van. Opportunities to work with the wider London team will also arise as operational need demands. Hybrid working will be considered where operational demand allows.

To be successful in this role you must have practical experience of green and blue space conservation tasks and knowledge of the principles underpinning them. You will have experience of working with volunteers, some of whom may have additional needs, and be confident in enabling all volunteers to undertake tasks safely and successfully in a welcoming environment and following TCV's policies. You will be a good communicator, able to work effectively with a range of volunteers in the field, site managers and local authority monitoring staff, as well as local Friends groups and the public. You will be required to deliver both written and verbal monitoring reports to our funders and communicate with the public via social media, so you must have effective communication skills to cover this range. Your fieldwork will depend on effective supporting admin, so you must have excellent admin skills to help you plan an annual works programme, for example, and maintain accurate volunteer and output records. You will need to be comfortable driving a 6-seater van on and off-road, since most field days include an element of driving. The role requires you to seek additional funding opportunities in south London, which may include sourcing new day-rate work, developing corporate volunteering projects and applying for small pots of additional funding outside the core Croydon Council contract. As such, you will be expected to spend a proportion of your time dedicated to this function. You will hold no formal budget responsibilities, although experience of managing small projects would be useful as the role demands responsible management of everyday project transactions.

A full, clean or near clean UK driving licence is required for this post, which has been held for a minimum of one year.

To fulfil the role, you must be resident in the UK and have the right to work in the UK.
