Wild Fridays
With Hull Road Park Project

Activity description
Join us for this family friendly volunteering opportunity in Hull Road Park. On Wild Fridays we aim to improve the park for wildlife by creating new nature homes, planting wildflowers, eco crafting, conducting wildlife surveys and more! Most recently we have created an insect hotel, made bumble bee homes and sown wild meadow seed. This relaxed, informal session is great for those wanting to make a difference, meet new people and get outside. The group is diverse open to additional needs and dementia friendly. During our break volunteers can enjoy snacks and hot drinks provided free of charge from the Choose2cafe (if you have any dietary requirements please contact before attending). Do as little or as much as you like, and stay for as long as you wish! Please contact the office for more details. We look forward to meeting you.

Join The Conservation Volunteers (TCV) to enhance the biodiversity of West Dunbartonshire’s greenspaces. We meet regularly in The Saltings, Faifley Knowes and Auchnacraig to help care for the local woodlands and wildlife areas, plant trees and hedges, create wildflower meadows, clear invasive plant species, and much more! Conservation volunteering is a great opportunity to make a difference for nature and to combat climate change. Details of upcoming sessions are emailed out each Friday. SATURDAY Biodiversity Action Day - East Village

Activity description
Join us and learn new skills, meet like-minded people and make a difference, as we help carry out vital biodiversity management work in The Waterglades, East Village. You don't need to book a place but, the first time you volunteer, we will ask you to fill out a TCV Volunteer Welfare Form (which we can email to you in advance). So please drop an email to Karen at eastvillage@tcv.org.uk You will be working as part of a volunteer team, carrying out tasks such as pond/channel clearing, reed cutting, coppicing (cutting smaller tree stems), digging and creating new habitats.

Activity description
Our Green Gym will be working in the grounds of the Ulster Folk Museum helping to create a folklore trail. Our experienced staff will lead you to plant trees for our seed orchard, weave willow structures, lay paths and will teach you about our native trees and the rich biodiversity that they support. Help us to complete practical outdoor tasks and contribute your ideas for developing the trail. Join our green gym and see the benefits! Get Outdoors: being surrounded by greenery has been shown to improve overall mental health and reduce heart rates. Get Active: conservation work or gardening is a great low impact way to exercise your whole body. Meet Local People: our volunteers love meeting new people, so no need to be shy, enjoy coming together to form a team! Learn New Skills: from tool use and plant ID to group leadership, there is something for everyone. Come along to our Winter Fayre! Create and decorate your own festive wreath, explore our children's winter trail, try your luck at the tombola, meet the wonderful volunteers from our Friends group, and warm up with a hot drink while enjoying something tasty from our special winter BBQ& treats stall! Our Winter Fayre is one of the park's key fundraising events of the year, and your contribution on the day will make a real difference. All donations help us maintain park infrastructure, support habitat conservation, and contribute to the delivery of our community events for everyone to enjoy. Free entry and no booking necessary; donations appreciated. Suitable for all ages. All children must be accompanied and supervised by an adult at all times.

Practical Conservation - 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month

Activity description
We run practical conservation tasks in various locations in York and the surrounding area from 10am-4.30pm on the second and fourth Sundays of each month. Transport is provided from Tang Hall Community Centre and the University Library bus stop on University Road. No experience necessary. The work varies from season to season. In winter you could be tree planting, hedge laying, or creating and maintaining ponds and wetlands; whilst in summer you could be constructing wildlife areas in schools, creating footpaths, making hay, or undertaking invasive species control. If you want to get involved in practical work outdoors, learn new skills (or share old ones!) and work with a fun and friendly group then come and join in.
