Grass Strimming and raking

Activity description
This site is a rare and important grassland habitat so we're helping to manage it for wildlife by keeping nutrient levels low. Strimming the grass off and raking it away from the grassland means nettles and thistles are less likely to thrive, giving more chance for wildflowers to do well.

The Merseyside Midweek volunteer group operates across the Liverpool, Wirral, Cheshire West, Sefton and West Lancashire region. We pickup in the TCV crew van at 9:30am in Liverpool City Centre every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, or you can meet us on one of our lovely work sites. Join us to help deliver habitat management across lots of beautiful sites!

Practical Conservation Tasks - Tuesday

Activity description
We run practical conservation tasks in various locations in Hull and the surrounding area from 9am-4pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays each week. Transport provided from TCV Humber field office. No experience necessary. The work varies from season to season. In winter you could be tree planting, hedge laying, or creating and maintaining ponds and wetlands; whilst in summer you could be constructing wildlife areas in schools, creating footpaths or undertaking invasive species control. If you want to get involved in practical work outdoors, learn new skills (or share old ones!) and work with a fun and friendly group then come and join in.

Wild Play (8-12-year-olds)

Activity description
Holiday woodland play and bushcraft fun! Set up camp for a day of wildness in the woods at TCV Skelton Grange... Activities will vary from session to session depending on the season and the group - but past Wild Play days have included: Wide games, shelter building, fire lighting, campfire cooking, field games, hammock hanging, wild food walks, woodwork crafts, string making, bows and arrows, stalking and tracking, pyro-carving and charcoal making. The cost per child is £33.60 (+Eventbrite booking fee) and includes a day of outdoor games and bushcraft activities led by experienced leaders. Please bring a packed lunch for the day.

Activity description
We will be doing a variety of tasks throughout the duration of the project which include; improving the biodiversity of the site, regular wildlife surveys, site maintenance, mapping, improving the grounds, planning and research. There will be soup provided at lunch break, but you can still bring your own food if you wish. Please come in weather appropriate clothing. Join in and learn how to use knives, saws, hatchets and much more to make things out of wood. No whittling experience needed, we can work with whatever level you are at. Your first session you will go home with a lovely whittled mushroom! We whittle anything we imagine, from spoons, deer and mushrooms to the Loch Ness monster.
