Here at the Tree Nursery, we are always looking for volunteers to help us deliver our mission in helping Northern Irelands native woodlands. The vital conservation work we carry out would be impossible without you. So, if you like the sound of getting a bit mucky and having fun, all while doing good for the environment then this is the place for you!     Cultra Ulster Folk Museum Green Gym

    *** We currently have a waiting list for volunteering at this Green Gym group**** **Contact Aideen to check for volunteering availability** At this Green Gym we maintain some gardens within the rural area of the Ulster Folk Museum in Cultra. You can expect horticultural work surrounding planting heritage vegetables, maintaining the gardens, aligning our work with the time period of the museum, path maintenance, and other conservation activities such as invasive species removal, and species ID and recording! This Green Gym is funded through the Public Health Agency, and is an excellent opportunity to meet like-minded people, get outside and active, learn new skills, and expand your knowledge on horticulture and conservation. We have tasks suited to all abilities, so please get in touch of you have any additional needs or requests.

    Join The Conservation Volunteers (TCV) to enhance the biodiversity of Glasgow’s many fantastic parks and greenspaces. Help care for the local woodlands and wildlife areas, plant trees and hedges, create wildflower meadows, clear invasive plant species, and much more! Conservation volunteering is a great opportunity to make a difference for nature and to combat climate change. TCV projects run daily from Tuesday – Saturday, approximately 10am – 2pm, with city centre pick-ups and drop-offs. There’s no minimum commitment – just join in when you can. Let’s make Glasgow greener together! We work in various sites across Glasgow. Details of upcoming sessions are emailed out each Friday.     Urban Nature Wellbeing Club – Nature-Inspired Yoga

    Activity description

    Connect with nature through movement in a special session guided by Sarah, an experienced yoga teacher. This month, we’ll use the calming and comforting environment of our ecology park to explore how yoga philosophy can support our wellbeing. Gentle stretches inspired by nature and wildlife will help relax your mind and body while nurturing your soul. At the end of the session, enjoy a cup of chai and try reflective journaling in our quiet spaces, specially reserved for this experience. Take home a token of relaxation to remind you of your experience. The session is open to all adults (18+) interested in learning more about mental health, building practical wellbeing tools, and connecting with a supportive community. This session is free, but booking is essential as only 12 spaces are available.     Our Green Gym will be working in the grounds of the Ulster Folk Museum helping to create a folklore trail. Our experienced staff will lead you to plant trees for our seed orchard, weave willow structures, lay paths and will teach you about our native trees and the rich biodiversity that they support. Help us to complete practical outdoor tasks and contribute your ideas for developing the trail. Join our green gym and see the benefits! Get Outdoors: being surrounded by greenery has been shown to improve overall mental health and reduce heart rates. Get Active: conservation work or gardening is a great low impact way to exercise your whole body. Meet Local People: our volunteers love meeting new people, so no need to be shy, enjoy coming together to form a team! Learn New Skills: from tool use and plant ID to group leadership, there is something for everyone.     Join us for our annual plant sale and fundraiser! Edible and ornamental plants for sale, all grown with love at Hollybush. Plus woodwork and garden crafts, fire-cooked pizza, kids activities and Cafe 21 @ Hollybush selling drinks & treats. Cash and card payment available. Entry from Broad Lane, or the canal tow path. Dogs on leads welcome. Bike parking available but please bring your own lock. Car parking on site available for Blue Badge holders and those with limited mobility only, please use car park at Morrisons or on Whither Lane if this does not apply.

    Practical Conservation - 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month

    Activity description

    We run practical conservation tasks in various locations in York and the surrounding area from 10am-4.30pm on the second and fourth Sundays of each month. Transport is provided from Tang Hall Community Centre and the University Library bus stop on University Road. No experience necessary. The work varies from season to season. In winter you could be tree planting, hedge laying, or creating and maintaining ponds and wetlands; whilst in summer you could be constructing wildlife areas in schools, creating footpaths, making hay, or undertaking invasive species control. If you want to get involved in practical work outdoors, learn new skills (or share old ones!) and work with a fun and friendly group then come and join in.
