With Biodiversity Action Team (West London)
At Oak Avenue Local Nature Reserve
We will be working in Oak Avenue Nature Reserve to manage the meadows and pathways, including scything the slopes that can't be cut by the horses. The site is managed for biodiversity by LBRuT. We will also be completing our third session of bracken fern control (bruising and digging). If we complete these tasks, we will look to maintain pathways and push back bramble suckering off meadow edges to maintain the grassland space. Bracken fern is the UK's most common fern. It grows in dense stands in grasslands and dies off during summer creating a fire risk. Bracken is often removed from grassland sites to ensure it doesn't overpower other species/encroach on meadows. Please wear long-sleeves to this event as bracken sap/spores can irritate skin, and we will be clearing prickly seedlings (bramble, hawthorn, blackthorn) so let's reduce scratch risk!

With Biodiversity Action Team (East Village E20)
At Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park - East Village
Join our regular Wednesday conservation workdays at East Village and help carry out vital management work in the different habitats - wetlands, meadows, woodlands, ponds and the community orchard. You can just turn up on a Wednesday and don't need to book ahead but, the first time you volunteer, we will ask you to fill out a TCV Volunteer Welfare Form (or we can email this to you in advance if you prefer). You will be working as part of a volunteer team, carrying out tasks such as pond clearing, reed cutting, meadow cutting, coppicing (cutting smaller tree stems), digging and creating new habitats.
