    Practical Conservation - Thursdays

    Activity description

    We run practical conservation tasks in various locations in York and the surrounding area from 9am-4.30pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays each week. Transport provided from Tang Hall Community Centre. No experience necessary. The work varies from season to season. In winter you could be tree planting, hedge laying, or creating and maintaining ponds and wetlands; whilst in summer you could be constructing wildlife areas in schools, creating footpaths, making hay, or undertaking invasive species control. If you want to get involved in practical work outdoors, learn new skills (or share old ones!) and work with a fun and friendly group then come and join in.

    Practical Conservation Day

    The Edinburgh Biodiversity Action Team (EBAT) is a practical conservation programme delivered by The Conservation Volunteers (TCV), supporting habitat restoration and biodiversity across Edinburgh. Working as part of the Edinburgh Nature Network and Urban Biodiversity Enhancement Strategy, we help improve, connect, and enhance a wide range of greenspaces—from parks and meadows to woodlands, rivers, and community sites. Volunteer activities vary throughout the year and may include: -Meadow management (scything, cutting, and removal of arisings) -Pollinator habitat creation (bee banks, wildflower areas) -Invasive species control and habitat restoration -Woodland management and tree aftercare -Pond and wetland habitat work -Bioblitz sessions and species recording - Citizen science and ecological monitoring (plants, pollinators, habitats) Activities follow a seasonal programme, with meadow work and surveys in spring and summer, and woodland, planting, and habitat creation work in autumn and winter. -Through this work, volunteers contribute to improving biodiversity, supporting pollinators, and restoring ecological processes across the city.

    The Forth Valley Biodiversity Action Team undertake various practical conservation tasks and improve green spaces across Falkirk and Stirling. Activities include woodland management, pond clearance, maintaining paths and sowing wildflower seeds. We are dedicated to enhancing biodiversity through a range of activities from woodland management, creating habitats, eradicating invasive species, sowing wildflower seeds and community garden work. Volunteering is a great way to gain new skills and an opportunity to meet new people from a range of backgrounds.     Viewfinders

    Viewfinders are like picture frames for the real world: you can use them to help you focus in on a good scene to draw. Make one with us and then go and try it out in the park! Sessions run on a drop-in basis; they are free and no booking is required. These sessions will take place indoors, in our classroom, from 11am-12pm and 2-3pm. Ask at the gatehouse for directions. Stick around in the park and complete the quiz or the younger children’s trail to discover more about colours in nature.

    We invite you to join us for our 2026 Bird surveys! This week we will be surveying at Tottenham Marshes while the Paddock is undergoing works to improve the paths on site. MEETING AREA Tottenham Lock Ferry Ln, London N17 9NE What to expect: - A short talk on a bird species or bird-related topic each week. - A guided transect survey of the whole site. - Help with identifying birds visually and by birdsong. - By booking onto multiple sessions you’ll gain a deeper understanding of seasonal cycles, and improve your I.D. skills.
