    Bird Song Walk

    Activity description

    May the force (of nature) be with you. Amaze your friends and family by being able to identify birds by their call alone. Become a local hero as you gain confidence and expand your knowledge. Join us for a relaxed circuit of Rowheath Park whilst we ID birds by song and sight. The site has meadows, mature hedgerow, and a large pool with a diverse variety of birds and other wildlife. The walking route is wheelchair and pushchair friendly. Look out for our dawn chorus walks in April and May!

    Wild Fridays

    Activity description

    Join us for this family friendly volunteering opportunity in Hull Road Park. On Wild Fridays we aim to improve the park for wildlife by creating new nature homes, planting wildflowers, eco crafting, conducting wildlife surveys and more! Most recently we have created an insect hotel, made bumble bee homes and sown wild meadow seed. This relaxed, informal session is great for those wanting to make a difference, meet new people and get outside. The group is diverse open to additional needs and dementia friendly. During our break volunteers can enjoy snacks and hot drinks provided free of charge from the Choose2cafe (if you have any dietary requirements please contact before attending). Do as little or as much as you like, and stay for as long as you wish! Please contact the office for more details. We look forward to meeting you.

    Join The Conservation Volunteers (TCV) to enhance the biodiversity of Glasgow’s many fantastic parks and greenspaces. Help care for the local woodlands and wildlife areas, plant trees and hedges, create wildflower meadows, clear invasive plant species, and much more! Conservation volunteering is a great opportunity to make a difference for nature and to combat climate change. TCV projects run daily from Tuesday – Saturday, approximately 10am – 2pm, with city centre pick-ups and drop-offs. There’s no minimum commitment – just join in when you can. Let’s make Glasgow greener together! We work in various sites across Glasgow. Details of upcoming sessions are emailed out each Friday.     Green Youth Rangers

    Activity description

    Do you enjoy getting outdoors whatever the weather? Are you young (13-18yrs old) and want to make a difference at your local green space? Then the Green Youth Ranger sessions could be what you are looking for. This monthly volunteer opportunity is aimed at young people who want to connect with nature and look after their local green space. Sessions last for half a day (10am-1pm) and take place either at Brodsworth Community Woodland (Woodlands, Doncaster) or Phoenix Park (Thurnscoe, Rotherham). No previous experience required, just the willingness to try new things and join in. Activities vary from session to session depending on the season. You'll get the opportunity to try activities from practical habitat management, wellbeing in nature, and species monitoring.

    Pond Clearance

Every year we spend a couple of days clearing out reeds, weeds and the odd bit of rubbish to ensure the pond stays clear and healthy. There are a range of tasks so even if you'd rather stay on the bank you can join in and help move the material that is cleared - through to donning the waders and braving the pond mud.

    Minibeast Metropolis: building for biodiversity A Heritage Open Day event From green roofs to compost heaps, wildlife ponds to dead hedges, join us on a tour of the Hollybush garden to learn about the places minibeasts call home and what we can do to help them feel welcome. We’ll have lots of family friendly activities to join in with on the day; unleash your inner architect and design your own wildlife garden, build a bug-hotel from recycled materials, and plant pollinator friendly plants for the spring. If you would like to, you can even come dressed as your favourite minibeast! There will also be the opportunity to learn more about the history of Hollybush and view our rhubarb exhibition celebrating the rhubarb farming that took place here.
