Wild Fridays

Activity description
Join us for this family friendly volunteering opportunity in Hull Road Park. On Wild Fridays we aim to improve the park for wildlife by creating new nature homes, planting wildflowers, eco crafting, conducting wildlife surveys and more! Most recently we have created an insect hotel, made bumble bee homes and sown wild meadow seed. This relaxed, informal session is great for those wanting to make a difference, meet new people and get outside. The group is diverse open to additional needs and dementia friendly. During our break volunteers can enjoy snacks and hot drinks provided free of charge from the Choose2cafe (if you have any dietary requirements please contact before attending). *** We currently have a waiting list for volunteering at this Green Gym group**** **Contact Aideen to check for volunteering availability** At this Green Gym we maintain some gardens within the rural area of the Ulster Folk Museum in Cultra. You can expect horticultural work surrounding planting heritage vegetables, maintaining the gardens, aligning our work with the time period of the museum, path maintenance, and other conservation activities such as invasive species removal, and species ID and recording! This Green Gym is funded through the Public Health Agency, and is an excellent opportunity to meet like-minded people, get outside and active, learn new skills, and expand your knowledge on horticulture and conservation. We have tasks suited to all abilities, so please get in touch of you have any additional needs or requests.

Join The Conservation Volunteers (TCV) to enhance the biodiversity of Glasgow’s many fantastic parks and greenspaces. Help care for the local woodlands and wildlife areas, plant trees and hedges, create wildflower meadows, clear invasive plant species, and much more! Conservation volunteering is a great opportunity to make a difference for nature and to combat climate change. TCV projects run daily from Tuesday – Saturday, approximately 10am – 2pm, with city centre pick-ups and drop-offs. There’s no minimum commitment – just join in when you can. Urban Nature Wellbeing Club – Modern World Meets History

Activity description
This month, we invite you to explore Central Park on the Peninsula. Equipped with a clipboard and pen (provided), join us for a reflective walk encompassing both the history of the area and its modern architecture. Our facilitator will guide you in engaging your thoughts and feelings in a playful, artistic way, giving you tools to connect more deeply with your true self and the local surroundings. The session is open to all adults (18+) interested in learning more about mental health, developing practical wellbeing tools, and connecting with a supportive community. This session is free, but booking is essential as only 12 spaces are available. Practical Conservation - 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month

Activity description
We run practical conservation tasks in various locations in York and the surrounding area from 10am-4.30pm on the second and fourth Sundays of each month. Transport is provided from Tang Hall Community Centre and the University Library bus stop on University Road. No experience necessary. The work varies from season to season. In winter you could be tree planting, hedge laying, or creating and maintaining ponds and wetlands; whilst in summer you could be constructing wildlife areas in schools, creating footpaths, making hay, or undertaking invasive species control. If you want to get involved in practical work outdoors, learn new skills (or share old ones!) and work with a fun and friendly group then come and join in.

Our Green Gym will be working in the grounds of the Ulster Folk Museum helping to create a folklore trail. Our experienced staff will lead you to plant trees for our seed orchard, weave willow structures, lay paths and will teach you about our native trees and the rich biodiversity that they support. Help us to complete practical outdoor tasks and contribute your ideas for developing the trail. Join our green gym and see the benefits! Get Outdoors: being surrounded by greenery has been shown to improve overall mental health and reduce heart rates. Get Active: conservation work or gardening is a great low impact way to exercise your whole body. Meet Local People: our volunteers love meeting new people, so no need to be shy, enjoy coming together to form a team! Learn New Skills: from tool use and plant ID to group leadership, there is something for everyone. Plant surveys and thistle clearance

Activity description
We have just started a new long term project at this brilliant little site, to improve biodiversity. As we're in the early stages, our first few months are concentrating on recording what's on site now, and keeping on top of the plant species that would otherwise take over - mainly thistles. So our sessions are a mix of scything, raking, and walking over the site to survey what's there. Something for everyone!
