We run practical conservation tasks in various locations in York and the surrounding area from 10am-4.30pm on the second and fourth Sundays of each month. Transport is provided from Tang Hall Community Centre and the University Library bus stop on University Road. No experience necessary. The work varies from season to season. In winter you could be tree planting, hedge laying, or creating and maintaining ponds and wetlands; whilst in summer you could be constructing wildlife areas in schools, creating footpaths, making hay, or undertaking invasive species control. If you want to get involved in practical work outdoors, learn new skills (or share old ones!) and work with a fun and friendly group then come and join in.

This is a five week course which runs every Monday from 9th June to 7th July 2025 from 10.00am to 4.00pm It is well documented that taking part in creative activities and learning new skills can support positive mental health and wellbeing. The practical and creative techniques and skills learnt on this course will support your positive mental health and wellbeing. Learn how to safely work with wood and design, hand build, and decorate a useful garden store/small cupboard for yourself or others. This course is FREE if you are in receipt of certain income related benefits; work full-time (37hrs a week) and earn below £25,000 or work part-time and earn below £13.05 per hour; It is £37.50 for those in receipt of state pension.
