TCV Belfast & East have many projects and volunteering opportunities that connect people and green spaces across Belfast, Greater Belfast and South Eastern areas of Northern Ireland. Everyone is welcome to volunteer with us regardless of age, ability, experience or background. Working outdoors is good for your physical and mental health, you can engage in real practical activity to improve your local environment which benefits everyone. Our volunteers are committed to making a difference. We offer a wide range of opportunities for people to protect, improve and sustain the environment and increase biodiversity. You can learn new skills, engage in physical activity (without going to the gym) and meet other like-minded people. Volunteering with our CAT team gives you a great opportunity get directly involved in practical conservation work. This can include anything from tree and hedge planting, fencing, shrub and wildflower planting, woodland management, pond construction, living willow structures, path construction, creating wildlife and community gardens. The CAT team operates during the week. You can join us at our pick up point in Belfast or in North Down and travel by minibus to sites all over the Belfast and South Eastern area of Northern Ireland. Tools and training are provided to enable you to carry out the day’s task.

*** We currently have a waiting list for volunteering at this Green Gym group**** **Contact Aideen to check for volunteering availability** At this Green Gym we maintain some gardens within the rural area of the Ulster Folk Museum in Cultra. You can expect horticultural work surrounding planting heritage vegetables, maintaining the gardens, aligning our work with the time period of the museum, path maintenance, and other conservation activities such as invasive species removal, and species ID and recording! This Green Gym is funded through the Public Health Agency, and is an excellent opportunity to meet like-minded people, get outside and active, learn new skills, and expand your knowledge on horticulture and conservation. Our Green Gym will be working in the grounds of the Ulster Folk Museum helping to create a folklore trail. Our experienced staff will lead you to plant trees for our seed orchard, weave willow structures, lay paths and will teach you about our native trees and the rich biodiversity that they support. Help us to complete practical outdoor tasks and contribute your ideas for developing the trail. Join our green gym and see the benefits! Get Outdoors: being surrounded by greenery has been shown to improve overall mental health and reduce heart rates. Get Active: conservation work or gardening is a great low impact way to exercise your whole body. Holywood Green Gym is set in Dunville Heritage Community Garden, Redburn Country Park. Run by TCV in partnership with Holywood Shared Town and Men's Shed. It is a great space for all abilities and skills experience to come and learn, join in and have fun! Our Green Gyms are funded though the PHA and aim to improve peoples mental and physical well being by connecting us with nature and helping our environment. At Dunville Garden we are partially restoring the old Victorian garden for our community and nature. We have many projects and focus on food growing, invasive species removal, habitat improvement and management, horticulture skills, path restoration and many more projects. We aim to work with each volunteer and teach them new skills as well as sharing your skills and expertise with the group, we want to hear your input and ideas for this community space. Most of all we want to have fun and create a safe space for everyone and nature. We have projects for all abilities so please get in touch of you have any additional needs or requests.
