As we go we take notice of the nature around us, learn how to name the trees and plants and about the wildlife that shares the space with us. Grassland Management

    With Biodiversity Action Team

About 22.0 miles away from your postcode

    At Silverknowes

    Activity description

🦋 Volunteer with TCV: Grassland Management at Silverknowes Butterfly Meadow Who We Are We’re The Conservation Volunteers (TCV), and we connect people with green spaces to create healthier, happier communities. In Edinburgh, we run the Biodiversity Action Team (EBAT)—a local initiative where we take hands-on action to protect and enhance nature across the city. Whether it’s planting wildflowers, restoring habitats, or building homes for wildlife, we’re working together to make Edinburgh greener and more biodiverse. About the Project Join us at Silverknowes Butterfly Meadow, a beautiful wildflower-rich grassland on Edinburgh’s coast, for a day of grassland management. This vital work helps maintain the meadow’s biodiversity by supporting pollinators like butterflies, bees, and other insects that rely on open, flower-filled habitats. We’ll be cutting back dominant grasses, raking off cuttings, and creating habitat piles—all to give wildflowers the space and light they need to thrive. This project supports the goals of the Scottish Biodiversity Strategy, which aims to halt biodiversity loss and build nature-rich, climate-resilient landscapes. It also contributes to the Edinburgh Nature Network, a city-wide initiative to connect and enhance green spaces for people and wildlife. Pollinators are in crisis. Across the UK: 🐝 Over 50% of bee, butterfly, and hoverfly species have declined in the last 50 years. 🦋 Two-thirds of common butterfly species in Scotland have shown long-term declines. 🌼 97% of wildflower meadows have been lost since the 1930s, removing vital food sources for pollinators. Why Get Involved? 🦋 Help protect pollinators and wildflowers 🌱 Learn practical conservation skills 🌤️ Enjoy the outdoors and meet like-minded people 🙌 No experience needed—just bring your enthusiasm!
