At Ladywell Neighbourhood House
Our Livingston Wild Ways Well group meets every Friday afternoon for a gentle wellbeing walk around Ladywell and the surrounding areas. This is a gentle walk, not a hike! As we go we take notice of the nature around us, learn how to name the trees and plants and about the wildlife that shares the space with us. Afterwards we go to the Ladywell Neighbourhood House for a hot drink and a chat.

ð¦ Volunteer with TCV: Grassland Management at Silverknowes Butterfly Meadow Who We Are Weâre The Conservation Volunteers (TCV), and we connect people with green spaces to create healthier, happier communities. In Edinburgh, we run the Biodiversity Action Team (EBAT)âa local initiative where we take hands-on action to protect and enhance nature across the city. Whether itâs planting wildflowers, restoring habitats, or building homes for wildlife, weâre working together to make Edinburgh greener and more biodiverse. About the Project Join us at Silverknowes Butterfly Meadow, a beautiful wildflower-rich grassland on Edinburghâs coast, for a day of grassland management. This vital work helps maintain the meadowâs biodiversity by supporting pollinators like butterflies, bees, and other insects that rely on open, flower-filled habitats. Weâll be cutting back dominant grasses, raking off cuttings, and creating habitat pilesâall to give wildflowers the space and light they need to thrive. This project supports the goals of the Scottish Biodiversity Strategy, which aims to halt biodiversity loss and build nature-rich, climate-resilient landscapes. It also contributes to the Edinburgh Nature Network, a city-wide initiative to connect and enhance green spaces for people and wildlife. Pollinators are in crisis. Across the UK: ð Over 50% of bee, butterfly, and hoverfly species have declined in the last 50 years. ð¦ Two-thirds of common butterfly species in Scotland have shown long-term declines. ð¼ 97% of wildflower meadows have been lost since the 1930s, removing vital food sources for pollinators. Why Get Involved? ð¦ Help protect pollinators and wildflowers ð± Learn practical conservation skills ð¤ï¸ Enjoy the outdoors and meet like-minded people ð No experience neededâjust bring your enthusiasm!
