Activity description
This is a five week course which runs every Wednesday from 23rd April to 21st May 2025 from 10.00am to 4.00pm It is well documented that taking part in creative activities and learning new skills can support positive mental health and wellbeing. The practical and creative techniques and skills learnt on this course will support your positive mental health and wellbeing. Learn how to safely work with wood and design, hand build, and decorate a useful bench or small table for yourself or others. This course is FREE if you are in receipt of certain income related benefits; work full-time (37hrs a week) and earn below £25,000 or work part-time and earn below £13.05 per hour; It is £37.50 for those in receipt of state pension. Otherwise contact us for course fees. Evidence of identity and benefits, pension, or salary must be provided before the course starts. To enrol on a course or for more information please call 0113 274 2335 or email hollybush@tcv.org.uk Please note that this is a hands-on, physical course that requires a level of strength and dexterity, and you will be using sharp hand tools. If you have a disability or problem with mobility, then please contact us to discuss how we can help you before you sign up to the course

Visitors to this garden often describe it as a 'hidden gem', tucked away behind a training centre and residential care home. The group look after the extensive gardens, reclaimed by TCV volunteers since 2016. The group follows the Green Gym framework, supporting people to build confidence, well being and fitness through gardening type activities. The size of the garden means that there is space for people to experiment with their own gardening styles, in line with TCV values. The group has a well established core of volunteers, as well as welcoming new comers to the group. Everyone is welcome, whether they have 60 years gardening experience, or have never gardened before in their life. To join the group, please get in contact by email first and someone will be in contact with you to arrange a conversation about joining the group.

This course runs on Tuesdays for 5 weeks from 29th April to 27th May 2025 from 10.00am to 13.30pm This course is specifically for those who would like to support positive wellbeing through learning to garden inside and outside of their home. The course is aimed at people with or without gardening experience, who want to learn more about greening their spaces and growing plants. On this course you will learn about: microgreens, herbs, succulents, growing food, square foot gardening, helping wildlife, how plants can improve your health, growing and displaying plants and more. This course is FREE if you are in receipt of certain income related benefits; work full-time (37hrs a week) and earn below £25,000 or part-time and earn less than £13.05 per hour; It is £26.25 for those in receipt of state pension. We will be doing a variety of tasks throughout the duration of the project which include; improving the biodiversity of the site, regular wildlife surveys, site maintenance, mapping, improving the grounds, planning and research.
