At Greenwich Peninsula Ecology Park
Join our regular Saturday (every other weekend) conservation workdays at the Ecology Park and help the wardens carry out vital management work in the park's different habitats - marsh, meadow, lakes, ponds, shingle beach and woodland. Places are limited to 10. You must book a place, for free, via gpep@tcv.org.uk. The first time you volunteer, we will ask you to fill out a TCV Volunteer Welfare Form (or we can email this to you in advance if you prefer). You will be working as part of a volunteer team with the park wardens, carrying out tasks such as pond clearing, reed cutting, meadow cutting, coppicing (cutting smaller tree stems), digging and weeding. You don't need any previous experience and we provide tools and gloves (and wellies or waders if needed). We only use hand tools so you will get some great experience in the more traditional ways of managing habitats. The wardens will supply tea, coffee and the essential biscuits but please bring along a packed lunch. Wear old clothes, weather appropriate but including long sleeves and trousers, and strong footwear (e.g. walking boots or shoes). We meet at the gatehouse (the wooden building on the river) for a 10am start (there is a health and safety chat before we start the work which all volunteers need to hear).
