    This site is recently been taken into management by the local parish. They are keen to manage the site for conservation and biodiversity as well as their community. The BATeam have already done some sterling work here planting wild flowers, saving apple trees and clearing scrub. This week we are back to continue our brilliant work by removing some more scrub to make sure the meadow stays a beautiful meadow.

    Activity description

    The Reading Green Gym is going to focus all its attention on sites in and around the Amersham Road area in Caversham, such as the Weller Centre Community Garden, Dingley Dell and any other works that comes up in the area. They will always meet firstly at the Weller Centre Community Garden. The garden will need a lot of attention over the growing season. It is now used regularly for community events and children’s activities, so its important to keep it well maintained. There are various activities from weeding to raised bed creation, lawn mowing that will vary from day to day.

    The Green Gym is a regular programme of conservation volunteering activities, where the focus is on the physical health and general well-being of those taking part. There're over 100 in operation, including 15 others in the South East.

    Community garden fencing

    This week the Berkshire Biodiversity Action Team have been to Coley Park Community Centre before to install some hand rails and raised beds. The garden is well loved and looks fantastic but there are a few other bits that need installing for safety. So the BATeam will be doing a little post and rail fencing and other odd jobs.

    This week we are heading back to Braywick Nature Reserve again. The BATeam have been to Braywick a good few times over the last few years and have done a fantastic job coppicing in the woodlands there. We are heading back to meet up with Jason, the ranger for this site, and continue this great coppicng work that we have been doing so far.
