At Pesthouse Common
We will be continuing previous years' work to restore the meadow area in Pesthouse Common. We will be removing invasive and/or dominant species in the meadow, before they seed, to help retain a biodiverse environment. We will be working to dig out brambles and burdock, pull creeping thistle, and remove bindweed from the meadow space. We will also be providing a bit of TLC to a new native hedgerow planted onsite, including weeding & watering. It is a double staggered hedge planted by Corporate Volunteers in March this year, consisting of the following species: hawthorn, dogwood, hazel, spindle, & field maple. It will provide a boost of biodiversity in the northern tip of the site which has previously been managed as rural amenity grassland.

At Southern Park
We return to Southern Park to install a short 14m length of self-binding aggregate path leading into the grassland, in front of the new estate entrance beside Southern Park. We will also be creating 2 low level, turf covered bunds from the excavated soil & turf to run along either side of the path, to encourage people to stay on the path and not wander into the meadows areas on either side of it. We will also be installing 2 picnic benches within the park with hardstanding surrounds, and securing the benches to concrete anchors below the ground to ensure they stay put. Finally we will be topping up the aggregate level in the path we installed a few years ago, on the other side of the park.
