At Mereway Nature Park
We will be revisiting the new Mereway orchard and glade to manage dominant species being to prosper. Mereway Nature Park is a greenspace managed for biodiversity by Richmond Council. We will work to dig out the remaining bramble roots from the new glade/paths before seeding the area. We also want to woodchip the final section of looping path to guide people safely to the site. The new glades will provide habitat diversity in this greenspace, and will be a hotspot for pollinators and people alike. We will be working at Beaufort Court in Ham Lands to maintain a dead hedge we created last year. We will check an infill the structure and push back growing bramble runners. Other tasks include vegetation clearance along desire paths and fence lines. Dead hedges provide essential nesting and feeding habitats for birds, insects, small mammals, amphibians, reptiles and a whole variety of fungi. Dead hedges also make an effective natural barrier to reduce habitat disturbance, soil erosion and compaction from foot traffic.
