š Volunteer with TCV: Grassland Management at Royal Edinburgh Hospital Orchard Who We Are Weāre The Conservation Volunteers (TCV), and we connect people with green spaces to create healthier, happier communities. In Edinburgh, we run the Biodiversity Action Team (EBAT)āa local initiative where we take hands-on action to protect and enhance nature across the city. Whether itās planting wildflowers, restoring habitats, or building homes for wildlife, weāre working together to make Edinburgh greener and more biodiverse. About the Project Join us in the historic Royal Edinburgh Hospital Orchard, a 150-year-old urban orchard nestled within the hospitalās therapeutic green space. As part of the NHS Forest, this site supports a wide range of wildlifeāfrom bees and butterflies to foxes and owlsāand is used for gardening, beekeeping, and mindfulness activities. Weāre working to increase the floral diversity of the orchard by managing the grassland areas. Over time, vigorous grasses and dominant plants have begun to take over, reducing the space available for wildflowers. Through careful grassland management, weāll cut back these species and create more room and light for native plants to thriveāsupporting pollinators and enhancing the orchardās ecological value. This project supports the goals of the Scottish Biodiversity Strategy, which aims to halt biodiversity loss and build nature-rich, climate-resilient landscapes. It also contributes to the Edinburgh Nature Network, a city-wide initiative to connect and enhance green spaces for people and wildlife. Why Get Involved? š¼ Help restore a historic urban orchard š Support pollinators and wildflowers šæ Learn practical conservation skills š¤ļø Enjoy the outdoors and meet like-minded people š No experience neededājust bring your enthusiasm!
