
An activity with TCV Leicester Volunteers

Volunteers will be helping to hand rake and clear the cut species rich grass along the linear southern edge of this establishing woodland adjacent to the Grand Union Canal. This meadow spur forms part of the Grand Union Canal Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). Our late summer work will help maintain and improve grassland biodiversity. The site is owned and managed by The Woodland Trust
There will be a 9.30am minibus pick up for volunteers from the Victoria Park Car Park LE1 7RY. Volunteers generally wait in the area of the stone lodge buildings just up from the toilet block. Mill Field Wood (SP657935), off church Rd Fleckney, LE8 8AL
Mill Field Wood is one of The Woodland Trust's 'Woods on Your Doorstep' woodlands created to commemorate the Millennium. As well as a mix of broadleaf trees the site features a wildflower meadow which is home to the yellow meadow ant.

To access the site from the village of Fleckney please park your vehicles along Kibworth Rd which is off the High St just after or before the local scout hut. Please walk along to the end of Kibworth Rd, here you will find a kissing gate leading into a grass ridge & furrow field. Walk across this field and cross over the canal bridge, the site will be on your right side. Nearest postcode for the wooden kissing leading into the meadow is LE8 8AL
