This is a five week course which runs every Friday from 7th November to 12th December 2025 (not 21st November) from 10.00am to 1.45pm
Health and Wellbeing courses are designed to help you to improve or take care of your physical and/or mental health and wellbeing.
On this course, you will learn how to work with freshly cut wood using simple hand tools. You will try out different techniques to make useful and decorative items. This type of woodworking is calm and relaxing, and you will be learning in a friendly group, surrounded by nature.
This course is for anyone who wants to feel better by learning new skills in nature. You will learn how to find natural materials (foraging), whittle and carve wood, make items from wood and other natural materials.
You will have time to enjoy the outdoors, be creative, and support your health and wellbeing.
This course is FREE if you are in receipt of certain income related benefits; work full-time (37hrs a week) and earn below £25,750 or work part-time and earn below £13.85 per hour; It is £26.25 for those in receipt of state pension. Otherwise contact us for course fees. Evidence of identity and benefits, pension, or salary must be provided before the course starts.

Please note that this is a very hands-on, physical course that requires a level of manual dexterity, and you will be using sharp hand tools. If you have a disability or problem with mobility, then please contact us to discuss how we can help you before you sign up to the course.
In the first session we will introduce you to the Hollybush site, your tutor and other learners so you feel welcome and confident, and make sure you have the support and equipment you need.

Hollybush Conservation Centre is a large former farmhouse by the canal in Kirkstall. Volunteers meet here on a daily basis to work on various environmental projects on and off site. It was previously a rhubarb farm.
