An activity with Berkshire Biodiversity Action Team
Activity date: Tuesday 2nd December 2025
Start time: 10:00
Finish time: 14:00
Looking after/improving the wildflower meadow adjacent to the small National Grid site next to Lewingdon Wood near Pangbourne.
A lift from Reading may be available - please contact jan.trchalik@tcv.org.uk for details
Lewingdon Wood, Lewingdon Wood CSC, Off Streatley Hill, Stichens Green, Streatley, Berkshire, RG8 9SU
The site is a small 1.2 hectare area of chalk grassland & woodland, with an electricity sub-station taking up much of the land to the south and east. The non-operational part of the site is largely unmanaged, with works only undertaken adjacent to the substation boundary to protect National Grid assets from encroachment of scrub. To re-instate the grassland invasive non-native species (INNS) buddleia and holm oak, blackthorn suckers, bramble scrub and agricultural weeds including common sorrel, broad-leaved dock and clover will need to be controlled.

Clearance of bramble & hedgerow varieties in the meadow. Scraping away soil in select areas. Possibly fitting a railing next to existing steps & putting in a bench under a field maple.
