Activity description

We will be working in Ham Common Woods next to St Andrew's Church to maintain a patch of acid grassland, a nationally important and vulnerable habitat. Tasks may include: - Removal of self-set bramble & woody saplings - Removal of leaf litter & wooden debris - Removal of seed heads from dominant species - Haling of ivy - Removal of basal growth from mature avenue trees - Litter picking

Meeting place

Site description

Ham Common Woods is a Site of Metropolitan Importance for Nature Conservation. The woods are separated into three sections by roads (Ham Gate Avenue & Church Road) with each section supporting a slightly different habitat. The main central section contains dry acid grassland, a rare and endangered habitat. The woods also support four ponds and Latchmere Brook.
