Activity description

This is a special conservation workday in Southern Park doing some habitat enhancement works on one of the meadow habitats. Well be meeting at the Ecology Park Gatehouse to walk round to Southern Park together. You need to book a space in advance by emailing us at gpep@tcv.org.uk as we have a maximum of 15 places. If it's the first time you have volunteered, we will ask you to fill out a TCV Volunteer Welfare Form and will email you the online link to this. You will be working as part of a volunteer team scarifying, re-seeding and plug planting in a meadow section as well as creating a low fence to protect the area.

Amenity park land adjacent to Greenwich Peninsula Ecology Park. Features include footpaths, amenity grass, wildflower meadows, trees, playground, benches, bins, lighting and fences.

Further info

Wear old, weather-appropriate clothes including long sleeves and trousers, and strong footwear (e.g. walking boots or similar). No previous experience is needed. We provide tools and guidance in their use, gloves (and wellies or waders if needed) and all other PPE. The wardens will supply tea, coffee and the essential biscuits. We meet at the gatehouse (the wooden building accessed from the Thames Path near John Harrison Way, what3words - ///cover.drain.prom) at 10am prompt (there is a health and safety chat before we start the work which all volunteers need to hear). You must be 16 or over and any volunteers under 18 need to get a parental/guardian permission form signed first. You also need to be reasonably fit - check with your doctor first if you are worried about your fitness level. The work is physical, and we work outside in most weathers on rough ground and in water.
