Activity description

We will be working in the eastern section of Mereway Nature Park to lay a section of planted hedgerow. Mereway Nature Park is a greenspace managed for biodiversity by Richmond Council. Hedge laying is a traditional technique used to create living fences or boundaries by cutting and laying hedge tree stems to promote dense vegetation growth. Whilst hedge laying is still used for this reason across the UK, in urban areas it is also utilised to create dense, biodiverse, green corridors and refugia for animals. Alternative activities will be available for those who would prefer not to participate in hedge laying.

Meeting place

Meet in Mereway Nature Park, next to the Kingfisher Bridge, at 10am. Closest street address is 1a Austin Road, Twickenham. Look for the TCV van. Site description

This nature reserve was formerly a market garden and allotment space. It contains scrub, fruit trees and contains an outdoor classroom.It is where the Crane and Duke of Northumberland rivers' meet. Mereway Nature Park is owned by London Borough of Richmond, who maintain it with the help of the local friends of group, FORCE (Friends of the River Crane Environment).
