Place: York
Why we need you:
The Summer Placement Key Volunteer role involves helping to deliver practical conservation tasks over the summer holidays throughout York and the surrounding countryside. You will be trained and supported by experienced staff, and work as part of a team with staff and Volunteer Officers.
Typical activities for a Summer Placement role include:
- Helping to prepare and assist in the delivery of practical conservation tasks to be carried out by our volunteer group in a range of urban and rural green spaces.
- You may also assist with social media, public engagement, and project planning.
Benefits to you:
You will gain experience and knowledge of practical conservation skills, supporting volunteers and project planning, whilst helping to enhance green spaces in and around York for people and nature. Volunteering with TCV can help you feel more involved with your local community, and give you useful contacts, skills and experience to improve employability.
What you need:
The role is to help support our practical conservation volunteering project, so you would be working mostly outdoors alongside our York staff team. We are looking for a motivated person with a passion for conservation and supporting others, an aptitude for practical skills, and a friendly personality.
The role will enable you to develop experience, as well as allowing you to bring existing skills and experience to help us deliver some fantastic projects over the summer!
How much time:
3 days a week over the summer. Usually weekdays, but with occasional Sundays.

You will be supported in your role by experienced staff through regular meetings where issues can be resolved and guidance provided. You will have all reasonable expenses covered (foreign travel excepted) so will not be out of pocket through your volunteering. You will be insured and expected to comply with the policies and procedures of The Conservation Volunteers.
Where roles will be responsible for others, we need to check your references. When the role involves young people and vulnerable adults, we will need to ask for an Enhanced Disclosure from the Criminal Records Bureau, Central Registered Body in Scotland or appropriate body in Northern Ireland.
Many people who work in the Environmental Sector have used a Volunteer Officer role as a stepping stone in their career.
