This role will provide you with a breadth of knowledge and experience on practical conservation at a variety of habitats and green spaces. We provide relevant and field specific training to you for free. Working with volunteers and the public you will also gain vital community engagement skills, organisation and leadership skills. Providing an all-rounder learning and practical based experience to spring board into your career in conservation or next chapter.
What you need:
We ask that volunteer officers are a team worker, enthusiastic and engaged, and able to work with a variety of people from different backgrounds and ages. No prior experience is required as you can learn in the role, but it may be helpful.
How much time:
This role is based in Colchester and is 3 days a week for 6 months.

You will be supported in your role by experienced staff through regular meetings where issues can be resolved and guidance provided. You will have all reasonable expenses covered (foreign travel excepted) so will not be out of pocket through your volunteering. You will be insured and expected to comply with the policies and procedures of The Conservation Volunteers.
Where roles will be responsible for others, we need to check your references. When the role involves young people and vulnerable adults, we will need to ask for an Enhanced Disclosure from the Criminal Records Bureau, Central Registered Body in Scotland or appropriate body in Northern Ireland.
Many people who work in the Environmental Sector have used a Volunteer Officer role as a stepping stone in their career.
