Volunteer Officer – Croydon

Why we need you:
We’re looking for a passionate, motivated Volunteer Officer to support and lead practical conservation activities across Croydon’s urban and rural green spaces. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience, develop leadership skills, and contribute to meaningful environmental work while supporting volunteers to connect with and improve their local environment. As a Volunteer Officer, you’ll play an important part in planning and delivering practical conservation tasks with volunteer groups, while helping ensure sessions run smoothly and safely. Your role may include: • Preparing and leading practical conservation activities • Supporting and motivating volunteer groups • Assisting with community engagement and public events • Helping with project planning and management • Contributing to social media, publicity and promotion • Developing leadership responsibilities and helping lead activities independently This is a role with real responsibility and a chance to make a visible impact in your community.

What you need:
We’d love to hear from you if you are: • Passionate about conservation and the environment • Organised, motivated and reliable • Enthusiastic about working with people • Comfortable with practical outdoor work • Interested in developing leadership skills A full driving licence held for over one year is desirable.

How much time:
• Minimum two days per week (ideally one office day and one practical day) • Occasional weekends • Minimum 6-month commitment • Flexible arrangements available

You will be supported in your role by experienced staff through regular meetings where issues can be resolved and guidance provided. You will have all reasonable expenses covered (foreign travel excepted) so will not be out of pocket through your volunteering. You will be insured and expected to comply with the policies and procedures of The Conservation Volunteers.

Where roles will be responsible for others, we need to check your references. When the role involves young people and vulnerable adults, we will need to ask for an Enhanced Disclosure from the Criminal Records Bureau, Central Registered Body in Scotland or appropriate body in Northern Ireland.

Many people who work in the Environmental Sector have used a Volunteer Officer role as a stepping stone in their career.
