IMPORTANT INFORMATION - The Paddock will be undergoing site works until November. Areas of site will be closed off. The toilets will be out of use and the closest available are 5-10 minutes walk at Ferry Boat Inn or Walthamstow Wetlands Cafe. There may be some disruption to tasks so please keep an eye on your emails for updates We invite you to join us at the Paddock for our conservation activities in 2026! Beginners and experienced gardeners always welcome. Tasks vary by season, and may include: meadow and woodland maintenance, path clearance, pond work, woodwork and more.

Join our regular Wednesday conservation workdays at East Village and help carry out vital management work in the different habitats - wetlands, meadows, woodlands, ponds and the community orchard. You can just turn up on a Wednesday and don't need to book ahead but, the first time you volunteer, we will ask you to fill out a TCV Volunteer Welfare Form (or we can email this to you in advance if you prefer). You will be working as part of a volunteer team, carrying out tasks such as pond clearing, reed cutting, meadow cutting, coppicing (cutting smaller tree stems), digging and creating new habitats.

Crane Park - Water vole ditch habitat creation (FINAL SESSION)

Activity description
This will be our FINAL SESSION working along the edge of the River Crane (off Hospital Bridge Road) to reinstate a ditch system and create a bund as habitat for water voles. This project is in partnership with FORCE and LBRuT. Creating a ditch and bund along the river will provide new habitat for the water vole, who create burrows in river banks. The ditch system will also create a floodplain for river water to expand into during periods of high rain fall. We have a selection of chest waders available, but most of them are larger sizes (7 and upwards). So if you have smaller feet, you will need to bring a pair of extra, thick, socks to work in these waders. This work will be muddy, so I do recommend you bring clothes you don't mind getting dirty in or spare layers to wear at the end of the day.
