An activity with TCV Leicester Volunteers
Activity date: Tuesday 2nd September 2025
Start time: 10:30
Finish time: 15:00
We are making a welcome return to this lovely green oasis in the idyllic Northamptonshire village of Rushton. All welcome to help us carry out the annual end of season wildflower meadow cut and clear. All the grassland vegetation will be cut using a traditional pedestrian Sicklebar Mower followed by hand raking to clear away all the arisings to make habitat piles on site. This is best practice to maintain grassland species diversity by keeping the nutrient level low. Rotting cut grass not removed will just add more nutrients to the soil structure thereby reducing the growth of wild flowers.
There will be a 9.30am minibus pick-up from Victoria Park Car Park, Granville Rd, Leicester LE1 7RY. Volunteers wait close to the Leicester City Council stone Lodge buildings just up from the toilet block where there is seating and plenty of space. Alternatively volunteers can meet with us at our Evington Park House office for 9am if this is easier. Please reserve your seat on the minibus beforehand by contacting the project lead on 07764 655482 or c.forty@tcv.org.uk Thank you.
