Activity description

We will be working to manage vegetation in the newly cleared glade and will start opening up undergrowth in the adjacent woodland to make way for a future nature walk. Twickenham Rough is a greenspace managed for biodiversity by Richmond Council. We will work to remove bramble roots from the new glade to reduce future scrub encroachment. The new glades will provide habitat diversity in this greenspace, and will be a hotspot for pollinators and people alike. Our work in the woodland will involve removing dominant species, widening a desire line into a pathway suitable for a future woodland nature walk. We will also look to thin out undercanopy growth to improve sightlines to ensure the safety of greenspace users.

Meeting place

Meet at the entrance to Twickenham Rough, located opposite Twickenham Station, at 10am. Walk down the paved pathway running alongside The Crane Tap. Look for the TCV van. What3words meeting point:///miles.saving.trick

Site description

This linear conservation site links Twickenham station to Marsh Farm Lane and open spaces along the River Crane along a well-surfaced pathway through woodland and bramble thicket. The Rough provides the final link in a surfaced route through open spaces along the River Crane between the station and west Twickenham. The open habitats here are part of a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation for the rough grassland, tall herbs, scrub and young woodland. The habitats also have value for breeding birds and bats. There are remnants of rail track and a buffer stop highlighting the land’s railway heritage.
