Activity description
We will be working along the walkway between Craneford Way Greenspace and Mereway Nature Park to being laying a section of planted hedgerow. This greenspace managed for biodiversity by Richmond Council. Hedge laying is a traditional technique used to create living fences or boundaries by cutting and laying hedge tree stems to promote dense vegetation growth. Whilst hedge laying is still used for this reason across the UK, in urban areas it is also utilised to create dense, biodiverse, green corridors and refugia for animals. Alternative activities will be available for those who would prefer not to participate in hedge laying.
Meeting place
Meet at Craneford Way greenspace, next to the FORCE woodpecker bench, at 10am. Look for the TCV van. Get to this location by following the paved service running in to the greenspace adjacent to the children's playground. Meeting point: https://what3words.com/search.chill.slower

Site description
Craneford Way is a large area of grassland with a popular play area. It is primarily managed for public amenity and sport as short-mown grassland, however there are areas of rough grassland ‘pollination stations’ around the northern and western margins, and peripheral areas of scrub to the west and south-east, which attract large numbers of passerine birds such as dunnocks and greenfinches
