Why we need you:
Are you interested in a career in conservation? Gain experience and knowledge with TCV, who are looking to recruit a Sunday Volunteer Officer (VO). The VO will support the Project Officer in the running of the TCV Haringey Sunday sessions. The sessions involve carrying out various tasks, e.g., tree felling, hedge laying, planting, bramble bashing, pond maintenance, coppicing, construction (paths, steps and bridges) and much more, in parks and green spaces across Haringey. Duties (to be agreed upon) may include the following: Assisting with managing the volunteer team, ensuring they are carrying out their tasks effectively and safely, advising and mentoring. Advertising: developing eye-catching posters and online advertising. Preparing for the session: deciding on the tasks and what equipment to bring. Various other tasks including the option of driving the work van.

This is a wonderful opportunity to develop a wide range of skills in nature conservation and leadership, gained through informal on-the-job training and by attending in-house and external courses. These will include first aid, risk assessment, safeguarding, project leadership and others. Many VOs go on to paid employment in the conservation sector, with TCV or other organisations. VOs gain the benefit of one to one guidance and practical training from experienced Project Officers.
What you need:
Essential to this role is enthusiasm, excellent communication / people skills and an interest in environmental issues. Ideally you will have held a driving license for at least two years and be over the age of 21. Knowledge of environmental conservation not essential as training provided.
How much time:
6 months minimum commitment is required, details are to be discussed. This is an unpaid position, however reasonable travel expenses are paid.

You will be supported in your role by experienced staff through regular meetings where issues can be resolved and guidance provided. You will have all reasonable expenses covered (foreign travel excepted) so will not be out of pocket through your volunteering. You will be insured and expected to comply with the policies and procedures of The Conservation Volunteers.
Where roles will be responsible for others, we need to check your references. When the role involves young people and vulnerable adults, we will need to ask for an Enhanced Disclosure from the Criminal Records Bureau, Central Registered Body in Scotland or appropriate body in Northern Ireland.
Many people who work in the Environmental Sector have used a Volunteer Officer role as a stepping stone in their career.
