Why we need you:
We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and driven individuals interested in volunteering in conservation. The role will involve:
- Practical assistance with our projects such preparation of our projects, maintaining equipment and welcoming volunteers.
- Leading or assisting groups of volunteers on our midweek group task days and guiding them through practical conservation tasks.
You will become a key member of the team at the Hull & Humber office, working along side other volunteers and project officers. This is an entry level voluntary position and no experience or knowledge is required, though some prior experience working outdoors may be beneficial.

As a Practical Conservation Volunteer Officer you will:
- Develop a diverse range of skills and knowledge in practical conservation through hands on participation in TCV projects.
- You'll learn new skills in tool use and maintenance, conservation strategy (why we do what we do), team work, responsibilities in leadership, communication, organisation & more.
- You'll also be formally trained in first aid at work, safeguarding adults and children, risk assessments, and have access to lots of online courses.
- Operator/machinery training is available, after a period of commitment we will support you to gain licenses in chainsaw & brush-cutter use.
- Join a friendly, supportive team! The Volunteer Officer role will give you real responsibility and aim to support you into being able to organise/run activities & lead groups independently. We will also aim to provide you with useful job opportunity information, interview guidance and references going forward. Volunteering with TCV Hull & Humber will give you real responsibility in a supportive environment, as well as valuable practical experience with an organisation recognised for its quality by employers in the environmental field. We will also provide a range of useful training courses, job opportunity information, interview guidance and references.
What you need:
Essential:
- You must be at least 18 years old with a right to volunteer in the UK.
- Ability to work well in a team and take on individual responsibilities.
- Energy, and motivation to organise and help deliver projects.
- Ability to share and communicate TCV values.
Preferred:
- Full UK drivers licence.
- A passion for practical conservation.
This role will be subject to a DBS check.
How much time:
We are looking for people who can commit 2-5 days a week to take advantage of this opportunity. There is a lot of training involved and it takes time to build experience, so ideally you should consider taking on the role for a period of 6 months or more. However, we can be very flexible around people’s life commitments, so please get in touch to discuss this.

You will be supported in your role by experienced staff through regular meetings where issues can be resolved and guidance provided. You will have all reasonable expenses covered (foreign travel excepted) so will not be out of pocket through your volunteering. You will be insured and expected to comply with the policies and procedures of The Conservation Volunteers.
Where roles will be responsible for others, we need to check your references. When the role involves young people and vulnerable adults, we will need to ask for an Enhanced Disclosure from the Criminal Records Bureau, Central Registered Body in Scotland or appropriate body in Northern Ireland.
