Activity description
Join The Conservation Volunteers (TCV) to enhance the biodiversity of Glasgow’s many fantastic parks and greenspaces. Help care for the local woodlands and wildlife areas, plant trees and hedges, create wildflower meadows, clear invasive plant species, and much more! Conservation volunteering is a great opportunity to make a difference for nature and to combat climate change. TCV projects run daily from Tuesday – Saturday, approximately 10am – 2pm, with city centre pick-ups and drop-offs. There’s no minimum commitment – just join in when you can. Let’s make Glasgow greener together! We work in various sites across Glasgow. Details of upcoming sessions are emailed out each Friday. Get in touch if you would like to be added to our mailing list.

Nature Counts Cumbernauld

Activity description
We meet every Tuesday 10:30-13:00 at different Scottish Wildlife Trust and North Lanarkshire Council wildlife reserves, across Cumbernauld. We will participate in a variety of wildlife surveys to understand targeted species and how we can help them. From pollinator walks to mammal surveys, we will cover a variety of species recording. We may also complete conservation tasks, such as removing invasive species or making homes for nature. Through taking part in these Citizen Science sessions you will gain skills in wildlife identification, meet new people and discover the wildlife that lives in Cumbernauld!

The Forth Valley Biodiversity Action Team undertake various practical conservation tasks and improve green spaces across Falkirk and Stirling. Activities include woodland management, pond clearance, maintaining paths and sowing wildflower seeds. We are dedicated to enhancing biodiversity through a range of activities from woodland management, creating habitats, eradicating invasive species, sowing wildflower seeds and community garden work. Volunteering is a great way to gain new skills and an opportunity to meet new people from a range of backgrounds. Come and join us to help care for the environment, meet new people and spend some time in the great outdoors!

Hedgelaying in Brockwell Park SE24

We return to Brockwell Park to continue with our winter hedge laying works on the western perimeter of the park. We will also be planting native whips in any gaps in the hedgerow, adding mulch where needed, and installing post and wire stock fencing in front of the hedgerow to protect it.

Duke of Northumberland's River (Isleworth, Hounslow) - River clean up and planting

Activity description
We will be spending two days clearing rubbish from the Duke of Northumberland's River in Isleworth. We will also be planting pollinator friendly species along the recently cleared bank to create new habitat that doesn't overshade the riverbed. We are working in collaboration with the London Borough of Hounslow to maintain this blue space. Pollution is an ever present threat in UK waterways. By removing physical pollutants, we are helping to reduce the amount of rubbish making its way out to sea and creating safer habitat for native animals (e.g. freshwater fish & aquatic birds). We will need people that are confident to work with waders in the water, as well a people staying on the bank to deal with the bags of rubbish collected or helping to pull out bigger items. There will also be plenty of rubbish to collect along the margins of the footpath in flat and easy terrain. We have a selection of waders available, but most of them are bigger sizes (7 and upwards). So if you have smaller feet, please bring an extra pair of thick socks.

Wednesday Practical Conservation Workdays

Activity description
Join our regular Wednesday conservation workdays at the Ecology Park and help the wardens carry out vital management work in the park's different habitats - marsh, meadow, lakes, ponds, shingle beach and woodland. You can just turn up on a Wednesday and don't need to book ahead but, the first time you volunteer, we will ask you to fill out a TCV Volunteer Welfare Form (or we can email this to you in advance if you prefer). You will be working as part of a volunteer team with the park wardens, carrying out tasks such as pond clearing, reed cutting, meadow cutting, coppicing (cutting smaller tree stems), digging and weeding.
