    Practical Conservation - Wednesdays

    Activity description

    We run practical conservation tasks in various locations in York and the surrounding area from 9am-4.30pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays each week. Transport provided from Tang Hall Community Centre. No experience necessary. The work varies from season to season. In winter you could be tree planting, hedge laying, or creating and maintaining ponds and wetlands; whilst in summer you could be constructing wildlife areas in schools, creating footpaths, making hay, or undertaking invasive species control. If you want to get involved in practical work outdoors, learn new skills (or share old ones!) and work with a fun and friendly group then come and join in.

    Glasgow's Biodiversity Action Team

    Activity description

    We are working to improve parks and greenspaces around Glasgow. Examples of work to be carried out include: • Sowing wildflower meadows • Creating community gardens • Managing woodlands • Building paths • Cleaning ponds • And much more! Volunteering is a great way to gain new skills and experience the different greenspaces around Glasgow. It also provides an opportunity to meet new people from a range of backgrounds. These groups will run every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10- 3. Volunteers can sign up for one or all the days. Volunteers must be over 16.     Crane Park-- Spring hay cut and raking

    We will be assisting the shire horses from Operation Centaur by raking up the arisings from the spring hay cut. Raking is important in meadow management as it maintains low soil fertility, which reduces competitive grass growth.
