At RSPCA Mallydams - Future landscapes trust
Ground prep & installing leaky dams from Fairlight to Pett. Leaky dams are designed to slow down water upstream to reduce flood impact downstream of sudden downpours. They are made from natural materials and there will be lots installed along small watercourses to create pools and puddles ponds where they won't do any harm.

Our Croydon TCV team have been coppicing the hazel stands in one coup of the Hazel coppice woodland, so we will be cutting the hazel to length and tying the stakes and binders in bundles, and securing them onto the van for transport to Brockwell Park on Wednesday.

At Ham Common Pond
We will be working within and around Ham Pond completing vegetation management, including: - Caring for the 160 whips planted in 2025 by canopy lifting larger vegetation, weeding and fixing the temporary fencing. - Completing annual reed bed management, through the push back of reed growth from vistas, digging out excess reed growth encroaching into the pond, and cutting a section of reed bed. - Coppicing the 4 pollarded willow trees on the island (can only be done when water levels allow us to wade across). If you have a body board you'd be happy for us to use to float arisings back off the island - please get in touch!). We will provide waders and gloves. If you are of a smaller foot size, I would recommend bringing an extra thick pair of socks as the smallest wader size we have available is a 7. If these tasks are completed, we will look to move to the adjacent Ham Avenues.

At Great Stukeley Sssi
This site is a rare and important grassland habitat so we're helping to manage it for wildlife by keeping nutrient levels low. Strimming the grass off and raking it away from the grassland means nettles and thistles are less likely to thrive, giving more chance for wildflowers to do well.
