Activity description
The Forth Valley Biodiversity Action Team undertake various practical conservation tasks and improve green spaces across Falkirk and Stirling. Activities include woodland management, pond clearance, maintaining paths and sowing wildflower seeds. We are dedicated to enhancing biodiversity through a range of activities from woodland management, creating habitats, eradicating invasive species, sowing wildflower seeds and community garden work. Volunteering is a great way to gain new skills and an opportunity to meet new people from a range of backgrounds. Come and join us to help care for the environment, meet new people and spend some time in the great outdoors!

NEW from 07/10/2026 Green woodworking workshops in South Wood, using the timber that we have collected in the woodland during coppicing. Learn how to split green chestnut to make rusitc gates. Make your own mallets or benches. Perhaps some whittling.

Activity description
We return to the Nature Garden to undertake some much needed repair to the paths we installed many years ago, renewing the timber edging and topping up and levelling off / compacting the surfaces. We will also be installing a new self-binding aggregate path around the rear of the main bed, and carrying out ongoing repairs across the garden as required.

Kew Pond - Reed management

Activity description
We will be working in Kew Pond to manage reed growth to maintain open water and ensure reeds don't dominate the habitat. We will also provide s bit of TLC to the alder buckthorn we planted on the island earlier this year. The common reed grows to form large reedbeds which act as important habitat for many bird species (e.g. reed warbler). In ponds, and smaller waterways, reedbeds can start to dominate the habitat reducing the amount of open water available for waterfowl to use. Reedbeds are often managed yearly, with removal of small sections of reeds each year. We will provide waders and pond gloves. Please note our smallest waders are a size 7, if you have smaller feet please bring an extra thick pair of socks. We will have one or two non-water tasks for those not wanting to get in the pond.

Wednesday Practical Conservation Workdays

Activity description
Join our regular Wednesday conservation workdays at the Ecology Park and help the wardens carry out vital management work in the park's different habitats - marsh, meadow, lakes, ponds, shingle beach and woodland. You can just turn up on a Wednesday and don't need to book ahead but, the first time you volunteer, we will ask you to fill out a TCV Volunteer Welfare Form (or we can email this to you in advance if you prefer). You will be working as part of a volunteer team with the park wardens, carrying out tasks such as pond clearing, reed cutting, meadow cutting, coppicing (cutting smaller tree stems), digging and weeding.
