Wild Fridays

Activity description
Join us for this family friendly volunteering opportunity in Hull Road Park. On Wild Fridays we aim to improve the park for wildlife by creating new nature homes, planting wildflowers, eco crafting, conducting wildlife surveys and more! Most recently we have created an insect hotel, made bumble bee homes and sown wild meadow seed. This relaxed, informal session is great for those wanting to make a difference, meet new people and get outside. The group is diverse open to additional needs and dementia friendly. During our break volunteers can enjoy snacks and hot drinks provided free of charge from the Choose2cafe (if you have any dietary requirements please contact before attending). Do as little or as much as you like, and stay for as long as you wish! Please contact the office for more details. We look forward to meeting you.

Practical Conservation - 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month

Activity description
We run practical conservation tasks in various locations in York and the surrounding area from 10am-4.30pm on the second and fourth Sundays of each month. Transport is provided from Tang Hall Community Centre and the University Library bus stop on University Road. No experience necessary. The work varies from season to season. In winter you could be tree planting, hedge laying, or creating and maintaining ponds and wetlands; whilst in summer you could be constructing wildlife areas in schools, creating footpaths, making hay, or undertaking invasive species control. If you want to get involved in practical work outdoors, learn new skills (or share old ones!) and work with a fun and friendly group then come and join in.

We run practical conservation tasks in various locations in Hull and the surrounding area from 9am-4pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays each week. Transport provided from TCV Humber field office. No experience necessary. The work varies from season to season. In winter you could be tree planting, hedge laying, or creating and maintaining ponds and wetlands; whilst in summer you could be constructing wildlife areas in schools, creating footpaths or undertaking invasive species control. If you want to get involved in practical work outdoors, learn new skills (or share old ones!) and work with a fun and friendly group then come and join in.

<br>This course runs on Mondays for 5 weeks from 12th January to 9th February 2026 from 10.00am to 14.15pm<br> <br>This course is designed for anyone who would like to improve their wellbeing and learn some traditional craft skills at the same time. The course will introduce you different practices to help your wellbeing, the benefits of being in nature, and to the practical skills needed for a variety of traditional crafts. You will learn about: different meditation and stress management techniques, how to make a variety of things from natural materials and more.<br> <br>This course is FREE if you are in receipt of certain income related benefits; work full-time (37hrs a week) and earn below £25,750 or part-time and earn less than £13.85 per hour; It is £30 for those in receipt of state pension. Otherwise contact us for course fees. This is a five week course which runs every Monday from 12th January to 9th February 2026 from 10.00am to 4.00pm <br>Health and Wellbeing courses are designed to help you to improve or take care of your physical and/or mental health and wellbeing. <br>This hands-on course is all about using creativity to boost wellbeing, tackle feelings of isolation, and support mental health. You'll learn practical woodwork skills that you can use in everyday life - no experience needed! Whether you're a complete beginner or just want to refresh your skills, you'll get to safely use common hand tools, measure wood accurately for simple projects, create basic joints and fixings. It's a relaxed and supportive environment where you can learn new skills, meet others, and enjoy the process of making a planter and a small bench with your hands. <br>This course is FREE if you are in receipt of certain income related benefits; work full-time (37hrs a week) and earn below £25,750 or work part-time and earn below £13.85 per hour; It is £37.50 for those in receipt of state pension. Otherwise contact us for course fees. Join in and learn how to use knives, saws, hatchets and much more to make things out of wood. No whittling experience needed, we can work with whatever level you are at. Your first session you will go home with a lovely whittled mushroom! We whittle anything we imagine, from spoons, deer and mushrooms to the Loch Ness monster.
