    Biodiversity Action Team: Connecting Communities, Enhancing Nature. The Biodiversity Action Team (BAT) is composed of diverse individuals united by a shared passion for environmental conservation. Our team engages in a range of activities, from tree planting to ecological surveying, fostering a sense of community and environmental stewardship. What We Do and Why: From urban greenspaces to rural landscapes, BAT works collaboratively to enhance biodiversity and empower communities. Through hands-on conservation and citizen science initiatives, we believe that small actions lead to significant outcomes. Join us in creating thriving green spaces that celebrate the diversity of life and enrich both the environment and the lives of those involved.     Chatham Place Community Garden

    Activity description

    Join us every THIRD WEDNESDAY of the month at Chatham Place in Northfield as we sow, grow and enjoy each other's company in the beautiful setting of the communal gardens! Enjoy gardening in a relaxed and welcoming environment. Everybody is welcome and no experience is necessary! All tools and equipment is provided. The garden is flat and provides an accessible space for everyone to enjoy being outdoors. Please note that the front doors close automatically at 3 so please arrive by 2.30 to avoid being locked out.

We often see a variety of different species, including many different types of birds. Summer is especially magical when the butterflies take flight, and autumn brings the fungi in all of their delight! Learn about all of our amazing wildlife and how to ID what you see!

    Practical Conservation Projects

    Activity description

    We run practical conservation tasks in various locations in Hull and the surrounding area from 9am-4pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays each week. Transport provided from TCV Humber field office. No experience necessary. The work varies from season to season. In winter you could be tree planting, hedge laying, or creating and maintaining ponds and wetlands; whilst in summer you could be constructing wildlife areas in schools, creating footpaths, making hay, or undertaking invasive species control. If you want to get involved in practical work outdoors, learn new skills (or share old ones!) and work with a fun and friendly group then come and join in.

    This is a five week course which runs every Wednesday from 24th April to 22nd May 2024 from 10.00am to 4.00pm <br>It is well documented that taking part in creative activities and learning new skills can support positive mental health and wellbeing. <br>Learn how to safely work with reclaimed wood and hand build new, and useful items for yourself or others. The practical and creative techniques and skills learnt on this course will support your positive mental health and wellbeing <br>After the course you could enrol on other wood or nature wellbeing focussed courses and learn further mindful artistic skills and techniques. <br>This course is FREE if you are in receipt of certain income related benefits; work full-time (37.5hrs a week) and earn below £21,225; It is £37.50 for those over state pension age and in receipt of state pension. Otherwise contact us for course fees. Evidence of identity and benefits or pension must be provided before the course starts. <br>To enrol on a course or for more information please call 0113 274 2335 or email hollybush@tcv.org.uk <br>Please note that this is a very hands-on, physical course that requires a level of strength and dexterity, and you will be using sharp hand tools.     We are working to improve parks and greenspaces around Glasgow. Examples of work to be carried out include: • Sowing wildflower meadows • Creating community gardens • Managing woodlands • Building paths • Cleaning ponds • And much more! Volunteering is a great way to gain new skills and experience the different greenspaces around Glasgow. It also provides an opportunity to meet new people from a range of backgrounds. These groups will run every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10- 3. Volunteers can sign up for one or all the days. Volunteers must be over 16.
