    Practical Conservation Projects

    Activity description

    We run practical conservation tasks in various locations in Hull and the surrounding area from 9am-4pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays each week. Transport provided from TCV Humber field office. No experience necessary. The work varies from season to season. In winter you could be tree planting, hedge laying, or creating and maintaining ponds and wetlands; whilst in summer you could be constructing wildlife areas in schools, creating footpaths, making hay, or undertaking invasive species control. If you want to get involved in practical work outdoors, learn new skills (or share old ones!) and work with a fun and friendly group then come and join in.

    Growing Plants Outside and In (Tuesday for FIVE weeks) HT6

    Activity description

    This course runs on Tuesdays for 5 weeks from 10th June to 8th July 2025 from 10.00am to 13.30pm This course is specifically for those who would like to support positive wellbeing through learning to grow and care for plants outside and in their home. The course is aimed at people with or without gardening experience, who want to learn more about greening their spaces and growing and caring for plants. On this course you will learn about: microgreens, herbs, houseplants, succulents, growing food, square foot gardening, helping wildlife, how plants can improve your health, growing and displaying plants and more. This course is FREE if you are in receipt of certain income related benefits; work full-time (37hrs a week) and earn below £25,000 or part-time and earn less than £13.05 per hour; It is £26.25 for those in receipt of state pension. Otherwise contact us for course fees. Evidence of identity and benefits, pension, or salary must be provided before the course starts. Every Thursday afternoon we meet at Howden Walled Garden to help make this place better for people and wildlife. We take part in a variety of different activities such as conservation gardening, wildlife surveying, natural art, seed and tree planting, health walks and more. Everything is done at a relaxed, easy, pace and we work hard to be welcoming to everyone.

    Join our wildlife surveys in 2025! The event is for anyone who is interested in learning about nature, wildlife and their local greenspace. Beginners always welcome. Please book a place on Eventbrite. 10am – 11am is our weekly bird survey 11:15am – 12:15pm is often a second wildlife survey. Second survey do not run every Friday in Autumn/Winter so please check Eventbrite for details. This may be wildflowers, pond creatures, butterflies, bumblebees or more depending on the time of year.

    Bird Song Walk

    Activity description

    May the force (of nature) be with you. Amaze your friends and family by being able to identify birds by their call alone. Become a local hero as you gain confidence and expand your knowledge. Join us for a relaxed circuit of Rowheath Park whilst we ID birds by song and sight. The site has meadows, mature hedgerow, and a large pool with a diverse variety of birds and other wildlife. The walking route is wheelchair and pushchair friendly. Look out for our dawn chorus walks in April and May!
