We can offer a lot of opportunities for work experience and training in a wide range of environmental and conservation projects. This would be great experience for anybody wanting to build a career in the environmental sector. For somebody committing to be involved for up to a year, we would offer City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate or Diploma in Work-based Horticulture. This would be through on-the-job experience, portfolio building and assessment. TCV’s Coleraine office is on Northern Ireland’s scenic North Coast, with many miles of beaches and sand dunes, mountains and the Giants Causeway World Heritage site all nearby. The work we do spans three Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The area also includes no less than seven Game of Thrones filming locations!
What you need:
No formal experience is required. An interest in the environment and enthusiasm to engage and support volunteers and the public is important. Some environmental knowledge and practical skills are helpful, but these can all be gained on the job and through training. A clean driving license is also helpful but not essential.
How much time:
Two or three days per week for 6 months or longer, but we are flexible.

You will be supported in your role by experienced staff through regular meetings where issues can be resolved and guidance provided. You will have all reasonable expenses covered (foreign travel excepted) so will not be out of pocket through your volunteering. You will be insured and expected to comply with the policies and procedures of The Conservation Volunteers.
Where roles will be responsible for others, we need to check your references. When the role involves young people and vulnerable adults, we will need to ask for an Enhanced Disclosure from the Criminal Records Bureau, Central Registered Body in Scotland or appropriate body in Northern Ireland.
Many people who work in the Environmental Sector have used a Volunteer Officer role as a stepping stone in their career.
